Bosnian, originally uploaded by hoveringdog.
Sevdalinkas are love songs of Bosnia, Sarajevo, Mostar sang for centuries. Sevdalinka is the authentic music heritage of Bosnia and Bosnians, but popular across the former Yugoslav region, especially in Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia. Its roots reach back to the age of Ottoman Empire rule on the Balkan peninsula, but the actual composers of many sevdalinkas are unknown. The combination of Oriental, European and Sephardic elements make it stand out among other kinds of folk music in the Balkans.
Himzo Polovina (1927 in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina – 1986 in Sarajevo, Bosnia) was a Bosnian singer and songwriter, most famous for collecting and performing sevdalinka songs.
